Ensuring an adequate and reliable supply of energy at affordable cost in an environmentally sustainable manner is a central objective for every society. Increasingly, governments at national and subnational levels and private sector actors are examining how existing trade and environmental agreements affect such energy and environmental goals, and their impacts on economic growth and job creation.
In the U.S., the impact of recent actions by the Trump Administration, notably the withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and announced regulatory rollbacks, will impact energy, environment, trade, job, business and economic growth goals of American and international firms and governments around the world.
A number of U.S. state and local governments are acting to the extent possible, both individually and collectively among themselves and with foreign governments, business groups and NGOs, to pursue energy and environment goals at times at variance with those of the U.S. federal government. These state and local governments are increasingly active in advocating their positions in Washington; foreign governments and business groups are taking notice and considering how best to engage new players in pursuing their own agendas.
Members of the TSG Energy and Environment team (listed herein) have occupied senior energy and environmental policy positions in the U.S. government and private sector and have decades of in-depth experience in their respective home countries and internationally. They have served in the White House, Departments of State and Commerce, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Congress in senior-level policy positions and well as in positions in the petroleum industry in the U.S. and abroad. They maintain current relationships with those in leadership positions in those agencies.
We have teamed with Washington- and Brussels-based partner organizations that, respectively, supplement TSG’s substantive expertise and relationships at the U.S. federal government (Administration and Congress) with: 1) access to senior policymaking, regulatory and political officials in the governments of the 50 U.S. states and many major cities and, 2) within the European Union and its constituent policymaking and political organizations.
Our combined team is able to provide both intelligence and active advocacy in Washington, the 50 states, the EU and across TSG’s international network. We look forward to discussing how we may assist clients to understand views of key actors shaping policy and regulating interrelated energy/environment/trade issues at supranational, national and subnational levels and to develop and implement advocacy campaigns to promote client goals.
